A Powerful Lunation
The Harvest Full Moon in Aries was such a powerful lunation that it swelled the ocean tides and stopped everything in its tracks (at least here on the East Coast). Storms demanded that trains be canceled, flights be grounded, and people be enoucraged to remain indoors. It was a powerful reminder that we are not in control. But also an opportunity to take stock of what is within our control.
Events surrounding the Harvest Moon actually serve as a beautiful invitation to “harvest” the things we can influence, cultivate, and claim for ourselves. It’s an invitation that brings us back to the corresponding New Moon in Aries that took place at the very beginning of spring—a New Moon at the start of the astrological new year that inspired us to plant seeds.
Spring is a time to establish intentions, begin new projects, and initiate the processes that we hope will produce something meaningful. Now, six months later, the Fall Equinox asks us to look back at those seeds:
What has grown?
What fruits have emerged from the labor we have invested?
Six Months of Growth: What Have Your Seeds Produced?
The symbolism of the harvest is especially important at this point in the astrological year. We have had time to put our intentions into motion. As we examine the fruits of our labor honestly, we may notice that some seeds planted have flourished, others may still be developing, and some may not have produced much of what we expected.
Whatever the outcome, there is value in taking the time to recognize what has been accomplished. We can celebrate, no matter the harvest. We can bask in what we have created. And more importantly, we can share our bounty with others.
The harvest is not simply about receiving. It is also about recognizing what we already have, and the more that we can still potentially produce.
Saturn in Aries: The Reality Check
There is another important layer to this Harvest Moon: it aligns with the planets Saturn and Neptune, both transiting the sign of Aries too.
Saturn is a sobering planet. It deals with responsibility, limitations, discipline, structure, commitment, and reality checks. Saturn does not operate comfortably in Aries because the nature of Aries is to charge forward. Aries wants to act, take risks, and move quickly. Saturn, by contrast, demands that we slow down, assess the situation, and recognize the consequences of our actions.
In that sense, Saturn in Aries can feel like a wet blanket. A cosmic reminder to pump the brakes. It asks us to confront what we actually cannot do—and perhaps more importantly, what we can do if we are genuinely willing to put forth the work required.
This is an important distinction. Saturn is not simply about limitation. Saturn also reveals what can be accomplished through persistence and sustained effort. Thus, the Harvest Moon brings these additional questions into sharper focus:
What have you actually built?
What required more work than you anticipated?
Where did you underestimate the amount of effort necessary?
And where have you demonstrated that you are capable of achieving something because you were willing to stay committed?
Neptune in Aries: Dissolving Delusion and Reimagining Possibility
Neptune is associated with imagination, ideals, spirituality, and the dissolution of falsehoods. It can expand our understanding of our own potential, or dissolve the fantasies that prevent us from seeing things clearly.
That quality can be particularly potent in Aries, an enterprising archetype associated with initiative and entrepreneurship. Neptune in Aries can inspire us to dream bigger. But we may also recognize under this transit where we have misstepped.
Perhaps we pursued something without fully understanding what it would require, or discovered that the path we originally chose is no longer viable. Such realizations do not represent failure. Sometimes the harvest simple reveals that we need to pivot.
What has this harvest season revealed to you about the seeds you planted?
Were you too ambitious?
Did you fully come into yourself in the pursuit of your most cherished desires?
Saturn and Neptune Together: Crystallizing the Dream
Saturn and Neptune may appear to have different agendas. Together, however, they can help us crystallize our passions and ambitions while transiting the sign of Aries.
The combination asks us to consider our dreams and determine what is actually necessary to bring them to fruition. The Harvest Moon nestled between these two luminaries becomes an illuminating checkpoint.
It can reveal just how far we have come. It can also show us how far we still have to go. That awareness can be both sobering and empowering; the illumination is useful because we cannot meaningfully adjust our sails until we are willing to see where we actually are along the journey.
Mars in Leo: Momentum After the Harvest
The energy does not end with the Harvest Moon.
On the heels of this Aries lunation, Mars—ruler of Aries in astrology—leaves the watery depths of Cancer and enters Leo, another fire sign.
Leo is audacious, bold, expressive, and willing to take up space. Mars entering Leo brings a surge of fiery momentum that can help us continue moving forward having reaped what we’ve sown, for better or worse.
Whether the Full Moon shows us a rich harvest or reminds us that more work remains, Mars in Leo can provide the energy to keep going. It can motivate us to work harder, push through obstacles, and embolden us to begin again.
The Weekend Is Not a Washout
Even if a Nor’Easter forces us indoors, this weekend is not truly a washout because now, we can recognize what we may have been too afraid or too deluded to see.
The Harvest Moon asks us to stop long enough and assess our efforts. It asks us to distinguish between what we can control and what we cannot. It asks us to celebrate what has grown, acknowledge what has not, and make adjustments where necessary.
Saturn in proximity to the Moon reminds us that meaningful achievements require effort and commitment. Neptune in proximity to the Moon encourages us to dream beyond our perceived limitations while remaining willing to confront the places where our vision has become distorted. The Full Moon illuminates the distance traveled and the distance still ahead.
And then Mars in Leo arrives with renewed fire.
The deeper message of this Harvest Moon is not simply about what has already been harvested. It is about what happens next.
There is power in pausing. There is power in recognizing reality. There is power in celebrating what we have accomplished. And there is power in keeping the flame burning.
As we move further into harvest season, we are being guided to gather our bounty and continue tending to the seeds that still need time to grow.
